Hydro Power Project

The Kuda Oya Hydro Power Project, nestled in the picturesque Salawa Grama Sewa Division in the Kandy district, is a beacon of sustainable energy with a robust capacity of 2.0 MW. Commencing its journey in July 2005 under the first term of the Standard Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA) with a tenure of 15 years, the project has been a stalwart contributor to the renewable energy sector. With an unwavering commitment to environmental consciousness, the project harnessed the potential of the Kuda Oya water stream and seamlessly integrated itself into the Kiribathkumbura grid substation, delivering a substantial 2,000 kW to the National Grid’s 33 kV Distribution line. Commissioned in June 2006, the Kuda Oya Hydro Power Project stands proudly as an operational testament to sustainable energy practices.

In June 2021, the project entered its second term of the SPPA, extending its tenure to 20 years, reaffirming its dedication to a cleaner, greener future. This initiative not only underscores the project’s pivotal role in the renewable energy landscape but also signifies a significant stride toward a more sustainable and eco-friendly power generation paradigm.
